Frequently Asked Questions

Please do not hesitate to send us your questions and we will do our best to find the answer. We will be adding more information, please check back.

Q: What is being voted on in November 2024?

A: The North Kitsap School District is asking voters for money that would come through a Levy. The North Kitsap School Board approved the Resolution titled “North Kitsap School District Resolution
07-01-24, and is Proposition No.1- Facilities and Technology Capital Projects Levy” on your ballot. This Levy would give NKSD $31,959,386 dollars to be used for facilities and technology. The money would be received over a six-year period.

Q: Are we For or Against?

A: We are pro funding for schools, we want sensible, well-thought out plans. We are asking the
North Kitsap School District to come back with a better plan. We must wait rather than approve a hastily thrown-together plan that was made quickly simply because the last Bond failed.

Q: Is this a new tax?

A: This is a new tax! This NKSD Levy is a New Additional Tax. If this proposed Levy is passed, NKSD will for the very first time, have three Levies running concurrently! (Please see the tab on this website titled "Yes, this is a new tax" for more information)

Q: How much would this new tax cost me as a homeowner?

A: Taxes for individuals are based on the value of their homes. This new tax will cost owners of $500,000 homes an additional $387.00 in 2025 and $410.00 in 2026, on top of our already $800.00 annual school levy taxes. If you are a homeowner, then the taxes are more or less than this amount depending on the value of your own home. So, a person with a million dollar house would pay twice as much. (Please go to the tab on this website titled "The Cost of this New Levy" for more details)

Q: Is this Levy Trustworthy?

A: How do we trust this Levy? Information is inconsistent. In February 2024, Voters were told that the Pearson Elementary school location was not feasible for a new school. However, now just a few months later, we are being asked to vote on a proposal to build at this exact same site a new gymnasium and drop-off/pick-up.

Q: Does this Levy meet expectations?

A: With the 2024 Bond failure, North Kitsap Citizens sent a strong message to the
North Kitsap School District. We expect transparency and financial accountability. This proposed Levy fails to meet expectations. The Bond failure can not simply be placed on one person. Many Directors, Administrators, and Consultants were silent or complicit. Many of these same people helped create this $31,959,250 Levy.

Q: Have a question not answered here?

A: We are a group of people committed to making sure our schools get the best plans in place for
funding. We welcome thoughts and questions and hope you will reach out to us.
